Bathroom Mistakes You Never Knew You Were Making

These harmless bathroom habits may affect your personal hygiene and health from washing your face in an incorrect way to sitting on the toilet for too long.

  • You flush the toilet with the lid open- Urine and faecal matter can fly almost six feet from the toilet seat during every flush, as per the microbiologists. Cover the lid before you flush so that the gross particles in your toilet does not fly in the air and pollute it.
  • Cleaning your ears with cotton swabs- Earwax may be a gross thing, but it is the best natural protection against dirt and dust for your eardrum. Talking and chewing helps your jaw move the wax from the inner part of the ear to the outer part. But the moment you put a cotton swab inside your ear, you do all the hard work that your body is supposed to do. Using cotton swabs push the wax inside your ear where it may get stuck.
  • You shampoo your hair by piling it on the top of your head- A quick way to handle tangled knots include shampooing a pile of wet hair on the top of your head, mainly among people who have long hair- just one of the major shower mistakes that you should not be making. The best way to shampoo is to lather your hair in its natural position, whether that is straight down your back for a long hair or flat on your head for the close-cropped hair, to give you smoother and softer locks.
  • You throw the wet wipes inside the toilet- There are many flushable wipes available in the market which are not as toilet-friendly as they claim to be. In fact, several studies have shown that there are some cleansing wipes which can break down when in water even after ten minutes compared to the regular tissue paper which disintegrates within few seconds after throwing. These flushable wipes have been popular for clogging sewer systems in popular countries like New York or San Francisco. Few of the other toiletries that you should never be flushed down inside the toilet include tampons, band-aids, condoms, dental floss, and sanitary napkins.
  • Using a washcloth to clean the face- Moist things like your washcloth are a perfect paradise for the bacteria to stick into. The only best way to keep the bacteria away is to take a new washcloth every time before you wash your face. If you cannot afford a new washcloth every time, no problem, you can use your hands to scrub your face. And ensure you change your towel every day. Damp towels also contain lots of bacteria.
  • You don’t rinse your bar soap after every use- A study has proved that pathogenic organisms may be hiding out on the bar soap during as well as after every use. However, research shows that the bacteria from a soap bar do not get transferred in your hands. Just to keep yourself safe, you must always wash your hand with bar soap under running water to wash away the germs before lathering up and then storing the soap in a dry place to keep the bacteria away as they prefer moist environments.
