Simple Ways to Reduce Eye Strain

Whether you spend long hours in front of your computer or spend a lot of time reading books or watching your mobile phone, eye strain is a common problem. How to get rid of the eye strain? Here are a few things that you can do to ease eye fatigue and relax your eyes.

Take your eyes away from the screen

It sounds very simple, and yes, it is. You must look away from your monitor or specifically, from any other type of screen to give your eyes a relaxation. This could mean looking at an object in a long distance for a minute, stretching your legs and have a glass of water, or just blinking in short intervals.  Another method is to close your eyes when you are talking over the phone. The more methods you can find to give your eyes a relaxation throughout the day, the better you will feel.

Relaxation with warmth

For getting instant relief from eyestrain, rub your hands together quickly for a few seconds and once they become warm, place your palms on your closed eyelids. Inhale deep breaths and relax all the muscles of the face. The warmth will give a soothing relief for your strained eyes. Repeat the process as needed throughout the entire day.

Back in black

Now you have one more justification for wearing black, other than the reason it looks chic. Believe it or not, the colour of your shirt can influence the monitor glare- and thus your eyes too. Light-coloured and white shirts are believed to produce reflection, while the dark-coloured shirts do not produce any reflection. As far as eyestrain is concerned, black is still regarded as the best option.

Parsley

Parsley consists of zeaxanthin and lutein. These are the two antioxidant nutrients that are very important for the eye’s health. These nutrients can reduce the risk of macular degeneration. In addition, parsley is rich in vitamin A and beta-carotene and it tastes great too. Rather than using it in the form of a garnish, you can increase your intake by making a juice of it by mixing it with other vegetables and fruits it with other vegetables and fruits or you can add this to your salad too.

Cucumber

It is an old remedy, but it works. Cut cucumber slices and keep on your eyelids. Keep it on your eyelids for a few minutes. It will relax the eye muscles, and you will experience ultimate relief.

A myth buster

Your mother must have told you that reading books under low light would affect your eyes, but you can forget this as another superstitious belief. If you don’t get good contrast or if there is a glare on a page, you will experience a temporary strain in your eyes.  So, flip on the booklight and enjoy the story until wee hours.

If you are among those who want to get rid of tired and strained eyes then, following the above-mentioned tips will help you to reduce the eye strain.
